RS flickering voltmeter

I have had a 05 RS since new. Other than changing a clutch, tires, and a starter, it has not given me problems. The voltmeter has always read dead steady. In the last three months I noticed that the voltmeter would flicker (It's not the rain gremlin as there has been no rain). It seems to be related to the radiator cooling fan. As similar problem can be found on the Ralliart page:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/04...-flickers.html

Has the cooling fan control module been a problem on the Evos as well?

I have checked the alternator and the battery and they are not the problem. If it is the control module, it's easy to replace. Please let me know. Thanks.

Something is dragging down your voltage, I would check the fan You can do pin out test found in the manual (I assume) or just find a used one or borrow a friend's and see if the problem goes away.

may want to check the control mod, there are some threads on here about how to test to see if they are bad--could very well be if its coming on and staying on at odd times.

Well there's good news and bad. The good news is that it is not the cooling fan control module (CFCM). The bad news is that it is the ECM. My brother-in-law (electrical engineer) and I followed the testing procedures in the Mitsubishi Service Manual in order to make this discovery.

Before I put good money down, does anybody have a link or two for testing the CFCM further? I searched but did not come up with anything.

Thanks for your help.

Interesting, on the off chance that the problem was caused by the Cooling Fan Control Module, I traded it out. As a result the flickering has stopped. It tells me that the service manual is not always correct in determining a fault.

Had the same problem with voltage drop when the fan kicks on turned out to be the fan control module.

Yes, it was a lot cheaper to replace the Cooling Fan Control Module ($40) than an ECM ($300).
