Has this ever happened to anyone?

Has anyone ever experienced your car being TOTALY stopped, and then when to put the car into reverse and hear a LOUD clunk? It does not happen often but it has happened a couple of times to me. It seems to drive fine after, and I have not asked my dealer cause there is no way ill be able to recreate it. But I am concerned. (Yes, the clutch was in all the way) Any ideas??

Oh yeah that happened to me twice in the 1 1/2 years I've owned the evo. Haven't noticed any problems as a result, so I'll just chalk it up as an evo quirk...

yup, scared the crap outta me both times, but no other ill effects as far as I can tell. The first time the car was completely stock, the 2nd time was just a few days ago, and I've had Vishnu's stage 1+ kit for a few months.

yeah i get the same thing sometimes too... mainly when i'm backing up and turning at the same time... i gotta be cautious while doing that from now on or else i expect the big clunker to hit.

no, but 1st thing in the morning if I try Reverse, it wont go unless I manhandle it. Well, Ive found a way around it, I put it in any other gear first, then it goes in R just fine... I was gonna ask if this happens to anyone else.

I don't think that problem is specific to evo's. My eclipse clunks into reverses every morning. Occasionally it refuses to shift into reverse, not sure whats up with that tho. The shifter is in the right place, but when i engage the clutch it pops in neutral. Putting it in first then going to reverse always works for me.

i view it as a normal occurance... every time i back up into a parking spot... i hear the initial "clunk" after shifting into reverse

I've had it happen a few times. What kind of exhaust do you have? I have no clue if it is but it could be the driveshaft hitting the exhaust
