Is my TC or just drivetrain noise???
Well recently I've been hearing a hissing sound from the car which seems to be there during accerlation as well. When I press on the clutch the noise seem to quiet down.
Is my TC going? What are signs of a TC going?
thnks.

My transfer case went out about two months ago, and it sounded VERY mechanical at any speed, almost like a fire engine siren under my car. When my mechanic got the TC out, he said the pinion gear was chewed to hell, and a bearing had most likely seized.
I shopped for price and found a new OEM TC @ mitsuparts.com out of Seattle, I believe, for $1,713.28. They shipped it for 80 bucks, and they got it to me in 5 business days. Thumbs up to them.
Bottom line: I hope it's NOT your TC, cause you'll have a lot of other ways to spend 2 grand. If it is, Shephard Racing will eventually be able to do an endurance rebuild once mitsu releases the spare parts onto the market --- so there's hope in sight.
Let's hope your clutch isn't disengaging properly instead.

Thanks a lot. I hope it's not th TC either. Just put in the ACT clutch like a few months ago so no $$$$ right now. It would suck!

I was going to say that it was most likly drivetrain noise. But since you just said you added a new ACT clutch it may be your TC. The added clamping power of the new clutch can cause damage to the TC under extreme conditions.....such as launching.

I agree with that! My TC went out just a week after I put in my Exedy twin disk, even though I don't launch it, but I was told that failure right after a clutch install is common. I'm about to switch to Redline Heavy Anti-Shock synthetic in my new TC to try to get the most life out of it! Yaknow, this is an expensive hobby.

I did not launch the car since the clutch install and I don't dump the clutch either so not sure. There was a boost leak after the install so I was barely driving it. The guy who did my clutch put redline heavy SP on the TC so I don't think it's the fluid.
I hope it's just throw out bearing or drivetrain noise. The noise just seems to be more noticeable or louder compare to having the stock clutch.

I sure do. I chalk it up to my chattery twin disc, because it generates most of the noise unless I disengage the clutch and let it coast, then there's a comparatively minimal noise from the rest of the driveline (including TC). Noisy for a 30k+ car, huh?
