Wining noises
What causes wining noises? I got this wining noise after i got my new ats carbon carbon clutch installed. I just wanted to know if this is my clutch or if its the transfer case or diffs or transmission.

Most likely. The TC usually goes right after a clutch install because of the extra grabbing power of the new clutch. If it's the TC, you can get a new one the cheapest through Mitsuparts.com. Happened to me. Those things are expensive, and they can't be thoroughly repaired yet, so just get a new one and put Redline Heavy Antishock Oil in it and make sure to slip your new clutch from now on. Sucks, huh?
It'll be about 2 grand, all in all. Sorry.

My Evo had this noise after my clutch was installed and mitsu installed it...but after about 3 weeks of driving...it went away...could be good or bad

Mitsuparts.com OEM Evo 8 TC = $1,713.28
80 bucks shipping, had it here in 5 business days.
Just in case you don't want to go through what I did for the best price.
I suppose you could get one now, and have Shephard Racing beef it up for you (I understand they can do that with a new part), but that's only if you have no other need for the money. Your call -- it could make you look like the sharpest tack in the box (but only if your TC does indeed go).

Not sure, probably--- you could give them a call tommorow, I guess. I've still got the first one I chewed up and I'm planning on sending it to them to repair and beef up once they get the replacement parts for it (which still hasn't happened yet).

It will just whine REALLY LOUD at highway speeds, whether the clutch is in or not, kinda like a fire engine. When I blew mine, apparently I blew the teeth right off of the pinion gear, so I never had a "grinding" phase, but it sure sounded like I was driving a Russian tractor at low speeds.
The evo will still move just fine even though it may not be transferring any torque to one of the front wheels, but there's every possibility that something worse might result.

The reason the TC sounds louder after a clutch install is because it directs more harmonic noise into the drivetrain than the stock clutch. My exedy twindisk came with a peice of paper saying just that. It whines badly but has several 6,500rpm tire roasting launches on it, and countless 5,700rpm dragstrip launches on it.
