sucking whooshing sound when trying to accelerate
My evo started acting strangely on the highway. When I would try to acclerate hard it felt like it was hitting a wall and was making a loud whooshing/sucking sound almost like a huge gust of wind. Everytime I would get on the gas this would happen and it wouldn't move. Does anyone know what the problem is? I left the car at the dealer and I am worried.

it could be the air intake snorkle on the airbox shifting and blocking off the airflow into the airbox.. usually that happens if the little hold-downs are missing and the snorkle can flip up.. Another possibility is one of your intercooler hoses popped off or the DV (recirculation valve) came loose.. Its likely nothing major.. Just a scary experience.

No doubt. Boost leak.
My upper IC pipe disconnected at the intake in rush hour traffic on the interstate yesterday-same symptoms. Car will NOT pull up a hill w/o boost. It took literally longer to open the hood than it did to fix the problem by reclamping the hose.
Hopefully your dealer won't screw you to the wall for what should be a simple fix....

From the horror stories you'd think they'd try to pull something like that.

P.S. like they said, boost leak, something is disconnected most likely.

they are black plastic and are pinned through the front lip on the snorkel to the front of the bumper. You cant miss it. If you lift the hood and the snorkel is pretty firm then thats probably ok. Definitely sounds like an easy fix. My first guess would be an IC hose or the DV hose getting loose.
