comparing manifolds

How do you tell if a manifold design is good or not? Besides the equal length manifolds are they suppose to be the shorter the better or vice versa? I have seen most manifolds from HKS, AMS and others which all look pretty much similar but the RNR equal lenght manifold looks pretty sick. The RNR manifold looks longer and sticks out more so im pretty lost as to how it compares with the rest.

If it doesn't crack, it's a good manifold.

In all seriousness, it depends on what you're after. Short runners are good for torque and spoolup, while long runners are good for high rpm horsepower. I have a DNP header on my car and am very happy with it. The HKS have been known to crack, while I haven't heard of the AMS or RNR cracking yet, but they haven't been on the market long enough.

With a SS header, it's not a question of if it's going to crack, but when. You want to be careful of runners that lie close to your radiator hoses, as it may cause a problem when running the car hard.

All in all, buy the one with the best warranty, anything's an improvement over the stock log manifold.

Our manifold comes with a lifetime warranty and we have never had one crack. In the past three years we have been building manifolds for the 4G63 we have had great success. We have a seen several other vendors manifolds crack at various different spots.

I can attest to the rnr manifolds strength. The walls of the tubing are way thick and the welds are awesome. I couldn't forsee this manifold ever cracking.

We have seen our equal length manifolds making more torque and hp at all boost levels. Some of the gains at high boost are outstanding.

Damn "equal length" terminology gets tossed around like a dirty ***** these days.

IMO these are some points to look for on a street car.
-Something that fits within the factory space available. No major modifications or extra parts needed.
-A design that takes the most advantage of the factory space. the design emcopasses Runner size, shape, length, collector design, wastegate placement, and lastly aesthetics.
-Strength & durablilty. Whether it be a properly braced thin or thick walled manifold.
-And almost most importantly. Quality. Good welding practices and fitment can make the difference between an awesome manifold and a crappy one.

RnR, your ramhorn piece is equal length? The 2&3 runners look about 2" longer than 1&4 in the single picture on your site.

They are as equal length as they are going to get while still fitting perfectly in the stock location. We are working on getting new pics of the manifolds on the site. There is several pics on here.
