Which 4G64 is best for EVO?

Is there a better canidate than another in choosing a 4g64 for an evo8?

stronger block, crank, correct anacillaries bolt holes, etc?

If so, what car would I get this 4g64 from? model, year, etc.

How about timing belts or belt tensioners?

are the rod journal diameters the same between an evo8 4g63 crank & any 4g64 crank?

thanks

I'm curious to know if you can stroke and bore a 4g64.... well obviously you can, but does anyone support it or would it have to be full custom?

You can bore it slightly... You need custom pistons anyway since the cast pistons in a stock 64 block won't hold up to significant boost.

The current generation Eclipse has a 4g64 that has the transmission on the same side of the engine bay as the EVO, the current modle Galant does as well. The only twin cam 4g64 was in the 1994 Galant GS, and that is where you would need to get your timing belt from since it needs to be long enough to accomodate the 6mm taller block. I am not sure of the other timing parts though.

Later,

Keith

Yep.. the Eclipse block and one other car (I think an SUV model) has an engine suitable to be used in the Evo Chassis where it would bolt on.. For the most part the only major external difference is the deck height is about .25" taller so you need the longer timing belt and of course, there's a space between the lower timing cover and upper cover of the 4G63 Evo head.. I don't think much else needs to be changed other than prepping the crank and using beefier rods and pistons.
