Mandrel bent tubing for intakes, etc.

In case anyone is looking to piece together their own intake pipe...

I came across a potential source for mandrel bent tube sized elbows in aluminum and 304 stainless tubing. Tube sizes from 1.5" to 8" in various CL radii. The prices seem reasonable.

http://www.globaltecheng.com/Product...?idCategory=65

To fabricate my intake pipe I've ordered a couple of 45 deg bends in 4" x 16GA aluminum. We'll see how it goes.

Cool. Between the two of them you should be able to find anything you need.

I like Global Tech because their prices for the tubing were very reasonable ($8/ea) and they carry the 4" diameter, small radius bends.

Thanks for the link, you might be able to make a intake tube. But you can't pc together a i/c pipe kit... they don't have 1d bend capability for any of the materials in 2.5"

Are you going to use a MIG or a TIG to do the welding? It is funny that you mention this beacuse just last night I was looking for a source of tubing. I only have a MIG right now so I need to go to the local muffler shop and get some pieces to experament with, but I have a very hard time paying what a lot of places want for their intercooler piping, it is just a bunch of aluminum tubes.....

I was thinking about doing some of the pie cut bends if I need to, I just read the last post about no tight 2.5 bends..

I don't follow your comment. I see 2.5" tubing in 16GA stainless and 16GA aluminum in various radii from 4" and up. A 4" centerline radius is pretty tight for a 2.5" diameter tube. Certainly you could piece together something using a variety of bends. It would be cost prohibitive but you could do it.

I'm going to do my intake using either silicone couplers ala AMS style or I'll have a guy I know MIG weld the sections.

I'm going to guess that the SS hardpiping I've got is 20GA which is about .032". I can measure it when I get home. Call Global Tech directly. I'm pretty sure they might sell you the thinner gauge material but they don't list it since for most materials handling duties it would prolly be too thin and subject to denting.

For my suction pipe I ordered 16GA aluminum (.051"). That's pretty thin and lightweight. Hopefully the 6061 alloy won't dent too easily.

woolf aircraft is also a good tubing source @ a decent price.

http://www.woolfaircraft.com/

They manufactor the tubing themselves & produce nice quality bends. I have bought mandrel bends from other vendors, the finish look like a$$.

Woolf also has a large variety of tubing sizes, materials & bend radii.

good luck

Unfortunatly this will probably only apply to people in the Dallas area, but...

http://www.garlandsteel.com/

I just bought 11' of 16 gauge 2.5 for $18.00. Pretty darn good, but they have no idea what they have, you just go back and find it. A lot more 16 and 18ga though...
