Cleaning my lifters today

Well I just can't stand the noise anymore so I decided to take the valve cover off and take out and clean the lifters. So I get Cyl 1 intake lifters out start to clean them out with diesel fuel and you should have seen the crud that came out!! My car has just over 12k on the clock and I would have never guessed that much stuff collected that fast. I'll try and update as I move to the different cylinders.

Oh, and you can take them out without removing the cam. Makes it a 3-4 hour job.

EDIT: Cyl #2 intake collapsed lifter. How do I know? Simple. The rocker just fell out without putting any pressure on the valve spring, this has to be where the noise is coming from, now to see if there are any dealers that have an Evo lifter

the easy way out is to buy oil treatment and pour that in to your oil. I did this for my dad's old avalon and it became silent.

Your collapsed lifter is most likely the noisey culprit.

What oil Brands have you used during the life of your evo?

I have used Mobil 1 up to this point 10w30 for the entire life of the car so far.

And I found a lifter in the city too.

Is the Evolution not a roller valvetrain? Inherently noisey?

Yes it is mostly all roller, usually kinda noisy.

Good news, the lifter noise is gone. It was a collapsed lifter that was the culprit. It was kinda noisy on start-up but that was to be expected because the lifters weren't "pressurized" before, but then after a few minutes so the car would warm up the noise completely went away. I say every 12-15k the lifters should be cleaned. It's actually quite simple to do, the hardest part is disconnecting everything from the valve cover.

Here is the webpage that I used, eveything on this page is the same for the Evo.

Wow, I have never heard of people using that in cars. We've always used that in our bikes though. What is that stuff sell for these days $15 a liter?

www.bleproducts.com

They make solid lifters for the Evo. I haven't seen any hydraulic replacement lifters but, I haven't been looking for them. I saw these guys at PRI. I'm thinking about going to themwhen I change my cams. I'm not sure that it's worth having to set valve lash again though.
