Unhappy is my head gasket gone or head cracked?

yesterday was driving the car doing about 120km/h consistently for about half an hr......everything on the inside was fine....air/fuel,temp etc.

then the car started to misfire....and then started to sound like if the coils were messed up...

so i pulled across and popped the hood.....the idle was rough. got back in the car to realise that the temp gauge had shot up...nearly got to the top!

got the car wrecked to be on the safe side.....checked it today...everything llooks fine.....water/oil...everything is good.

started it but it keeps doing the same thing.....btw..changed plugs about 2 days ago!

any help...

Well, like you said you changed the plugs a couple days ago... That just might be the problem. Good luck with the troubleshooting.

I didn't see that at first. Since this is a easy check I would start there, but if that all checks out I would start with the head gasket next.

You would not necessarily get a CEL for misfiring plugs. Just check the gap and make them .026. Also, what plugs did you put in? That can make a huge difference. If there is no oil in your coolant then it's not your head gasket. However, something is up with the high temps.....

Having issues with your spark plugs has nothing to do with your water temp going sky high.

Did you lose any coolant? Now that the car is cold, have you checked the level? Do a compression test.

First, go with NGK, I have bad experience with Denso. And IW28 is SUPER cold. Try something like an IW24 or NGK BR8ES.

yeah the IW28's re supposed to be 11's
I use this because I use nitrous and it's recommended that I use colder plugs.

Thing is I have used these plugs before....they lasted for months of racing.......had no issues with them.

It just seems REALLY cold especially for all the driving you do off nitrous. They would foul quickly. You might try a nine or something.

If the temp gauge shot up all the way to the top, i would be worried about warping the heads/bolts and other parts. I have no idea why the temp would go up for misfiring/detonation. Doesn't quite make sense.
