Electronic whine coming from under the car

So today I noticed an electronic sounding whine coming from somewhere under the car... I can't pinpoint the source of the whine, but I know it's not normal. As far as I can tell, it's loudest when I'm close to the rear wheels, (maybe a little bit in front of them) and I'm almost suspecting maybe my exhaust is doing something funny.

Would a pinhole exhaust leak make this kind of noise?

Do you have a Walbro fuel pump? Cuz those can whine like crazy after a long drive, or if the tank is mostly empty. And you would hear it on the driver side near the rear.

Good Luck!

Did you recently install a Walbro 255?

Hm... I do have a Walbro fuel pump, but I installed it more than a year ago. I wonder why it would be whining now? I have about half a tank left. And now that I think about it, that's probably what's making the noise. Could it be that the pump is dying?

I forgot to mention, it seems to whine at all speeds - whether I'm idle, or off the gas, doesn't seem to make a difference.

Its your walbro fuel pump. If you just start your car and let it idle you will hear the pump whine

That is extremely bizarre! I have NEVER heard the pump whine for the past year until now! I wonder if there is any particular reason why it would begin to whine now?

Si eater, I'm in the NOVA area, from McLean, specifically.

Yeah, that's pretty bizarre... it definitely did not whine before, cause that thing is a loud ****. If it did, I would have noticed it before. So it's normal for it to whine all the time like that?

i hear mine and it took me about a week to figure out what the hell it was. You can make extra sure by concentrating on the sound...slightly revving and you should hear the sound go up in pitch increasing flow and then back down to idle flow. Pretty cool stuff to me. I'm not one to care much for ricer type sounds but i like all the sounds my car makes.
