Bad Gas = Blown Piston
So the story goes, I got bad gas unknowingly at the time, a day later getting on the highway I put a hole in my piston wile in 3rd gear at about 6,000 rpms
I went back to the gas station with the reciept and tryed to explain to them the concept but they dont understand how 87 in the Evo would cause some major problems.
Does anyone know of any sites that state the problems caused from bad gas and how it can cause some serious engine damage?
thanks

ok,
I said fill it up with 93, i was in a rush so for the first time i didnt watch them hit the button. (in NJ it is full service only). so i get the reciept and i'm like hum says regular. didnt really phase me since I usually go to a local station where after you get gas and pay with credit card they put it in the price and the machine compensates the gallons so it come out at the right price.
So i then asked the attendend, "you put in 93 right" he said yes yes. SO i pull away drove normal all the way home, went away for the weekend. Now tuesday afternoon i'm pulling on the highway WOT since people woulnd let me in. Next thing i loose power white smoke the whole deal.
I get it towed to the shop and they are asking me questions and the guy finds the reciept in the center consol and says hey it says regular on here. I'm like yeah bla bla bla oh ****..
So they put in 87 and when i went back to the station the guy agreed they messed up. but they dont understand the concept of how this can cause some serious damage.

I am going to assume you got gas pumped in new jersey because I know that the state requires full service only. I am also going to assume that you told the guy premium and he put in regular instead. Unfortunatly, this is not a case you are likely going to win very easily. I doubt the gas station owner will admit to the mistake, but goodluck with it. Also, doesnt the Evo motor reduce boost levels with low octane gas? I have put 87 in my eclipse before, and it reduces power but never caused grievious side effects.

But do they have a record of you asking for premium? I doubt it. So it's your word against theirs. They admitted it to you, but I doubt they would admit it to anyone else. I hope they will fix it.

my take on it is that 1st. when u get the car it says somewhere that putting 87 should only be for emergencies and engine should not be ran on it really. 2nd. u are modded pretty well so i would think #1would be that much more important to u and only put in 91. so did u put in 87 or 91.

What psi were you running?
Stock fuel pump? Stock Injectors? The ecu would go into "safe"mode and retard timing where it sensed a mifire/combustion issue...
Lemme guess, 24 psi spike settling to 22 psi on a flashed ecu?
