AEM vs. GM map sensors?

I'm trying to decide whether to get an AEM 5-bar map sensor or a GM 3-bar map sensor to use for datalogging purposes and to wire up an electronic boost gauge (Innovate XD-1). The AEM is more expensive, but if there are definite advantages to it then I'd rather spend the extra coin.

Thanks.

Go with the GM

Edit: Also remember to get the pigtail, many times it doesn't come with it.

The aem map sensor uses a steel body and can be threaded into the manifold giving a better reading, also the aem sensor is more senstive and can get you a greater resolution. Both are very good sensors but the aem is a much better unit. I would however use the 3.5bar aem unit as the 5 bar sensor has less resolution since it covers a much larger range.

GM 3 bar map reads up to around 26psi,
AEM 3.5bar map reads up to 34psi
AEM 5bar map reads up to 56psi

Are you talking about drilling and tapping the manifold, or is there already a place where it can screw in?

Drill and tap it, but you will need to remove the manifold to do it. It isn't neccesary to tap it but to get the most accurate reading i would do it.

How do you get those numbers? I was under a different impression...

The XD-1 is a "add-on" gauge accessory for the LM-1/LC-1. If used in conjuction with the Aux-Box you can have the XD-1 display the various inputs the Aux-Box recieves. Its completely programable.
