Crack sound before goes into gear?

I have had this problem off and on since I bought the car with 14,0000 miles on it. The problem is when I first start it up in morning when it is cold I will have it in gear and I push on the gas and its like it is neutral, it does not move. I have to give it more gas to make it move and and a loud "crack" sound emits before it starts moving. And yes, I do have the e brake off. It does not happen every morning just once in awhile.

Would this be a transmission or transfer case problem? I just had the tranny fluid replaced and they said it looked fine. Anyone had this problem before or can share some insight with me?

Not sure if it's the same thing but my car will do the same when it's cold and after the car have been wash and left overnight. I'm thinking it's the wheel/tires but not sure. I hope someone else can shed some light. I hope it's not the pressure plate.

wash your car with some hard water.. it gives you a flash rust on the rotors.. hence the rotors have to break free.. the other guy is right its just your rotors with some rust on them.. sorry i didnt think of that...
