Post What would it take to get EVO 7 into mid~ high 11s ???

And if I plan to get aftermarket exhaust + downpipe do I have to get a straight pipe too ? or exhaust + dp is enough ?

(Note: emission is'nt a problem)

I'd love to see few pics of aftermarket exhasts installed on EVO VII from HKS - Apexi - Blitz etc... and which one sounds too loud @ WOT ??

If I plan on getting aftermarket IC Pipes w/o FMIC will it fit the stock FMIC ??? OR with an aftermarket FMIC IF I plan to upgrade my stock with HKS/Greddy/R.ART ???

Getting a BOV is safe ? or will the car stall ? HKS / Blitz which one's better?

What's the maximum boost EVO VII can take with stock turbo?

Does the EVO VII have a great top end as the Supra? I hear VII is short shifting like the Supra any idea what's the top speed on EVO VII with an upgraded ECU which removes the limiter+ remap?

Can somebody here tell me what are the bolt-ons available for the EVO?

Is it possible to destroy a 360 Modena / 911 Turbo with bolt-ons?

Am asking all these question cause am not sure what to get EVO VII or Subaru Impreza WRX STi.

I've been reading/searching and I've seen different opinions some say the boost holds upto 1.5 while redlining some say it drops to 1.3~1.4 and so on.

This is'nt my 1st Turbocharged car I used to own a GTO
High 11s with stock fuel system + Turbo(13g from the factory)

I need a reasonable answer so Please let me know how reliable and strong is the 4G63.

Thank You!

If I had the following mods:
Exhaust
Downpipe
CPU
Aif Filter
Boost controller@1.5Bar

Are you serious....Go buy an 03 Mustang Cobra if you want to go fast in a straight line. EVO's weren't designed as a drag car.

You did'nt get my point!

I don't intend to take the car to the track for drag racing, but more like handling and fast acceleration.

Most of your questions can be answered with some research...just use the search button. THEN if you can't the answers you need ...people will help you out...sidenote dragging cna be fun but there are alot of cars out there that are more fun to be dragging in....and cheaper price tag too. PEACE

mANY PEOPLE BUY THIS CAR AS a strait line performer. And it is a pretty good one at that. what are you going to do, bet people you can go through a corner faster. You have to have some means of comparison to other rides. Give me a couple mods and I will take a 03 cobra on any day cobra

Wow...you pretty much listed every single question that most people ask during their tenure here...at least you did it in one post. You really should do some research on your own and definitely poke around at the big name Japanese tuners (HKS, JUN, Bozz, Mine's, etc.) as they all carry everything you'd need. As for "bolt ons" beating a super car in the league of a Ferrari in a straight line? Hardly. Through the twisties...maybe. Have to find that road test of the 10 best handling cars. Lots of boost and lots of cash can fix that straight line problem though. As for the engine, it can stand copious amounts of punishment stock with some people saying upwards in the neighborhood of 400-500 HP. Seriously though, if you're researching an STi, it's in the same league as the Evo so your search for info shuldn't be hard at all.

Maybe we should rephrase that and say search the web itself. Unfortunately, we really don't have enough info on Evo tuning juuuust yet. If you get an aftermarket exhaust and a downpipe, essentially you've replaced everything from the turbo back. What exactly is the center pipe you're referring to?

The EVO wasn't designed for 1/4 mile running, although that's what most Americans will use it for (which is IMO a shame). A stock one does about 13.5.
Like any car, you can modify it to do 9s or 10s...I've seen 9 second Minis.

Modding it to do 11s will make the car very difficult to control, which kinda defeats the purpose of a quick A to B car. The EVO is a very balanced car with great handling abilities and modding the car that way will throw the whole thing out of balance. You'll wrap it around a tree before knowing it. I had mine up to 1.5 bar and found that it wasn't as fun and actually a little dangerous in canyon passes. There's such a huge difference in power once the turbo spools up that you could lose control and end up at the bottom of the mountain...

I don't know if you're serious about comparing a SL55 to a EVO but in a straight line the SL will smoke a stock EVO, especially after 3rd gear. Come on man, 493hp and 516lb/ft of torque compared to 271hp and 270lb/ft...yes the SL is heavy but it has almost double the power and torque...
The EVO is a great value, you get a lot of performance for the money but you can't compare a 30k car to a 120k supercar...

Downpipe
CPU
Aif Filter
Boost controller@1.5Bar

Not a stock EVO!

And how does it feel @1.5bar when u floor it ??

How good is the stock FMIC ??

I really don't know what you're planning to do. What do you mean exhaust and downpipe? If it's a full turbo back exhaust then that includes the downpipe.

It really depends on what ECU you're looking at. I'm using the Apexi Power FC with a Apexi turbo back exhaust, Cusco twin plate clutch, intake and a few other mods and at 1.4 bar I got it dynoed at 360hp at the crank.
Yeah the power was huge, yeah it was fast and yeah the numbers sounded cool but it was not efficient in real life conditions. You can't imagine how fast the gas tank emptys up and acutally you can't use that power to it's full extent on the street.
I'm now at 1.2 bar and I like it a lot more.
The problem is that when you're accelerating out of a corner and you're just between on boost and not on boost (around 3200rpm-this happens quite a bit in real life...) the power difference is so much that the car can go out of control.

"How does it feel when you floor it?"....that question gives me the impression that you're not a very experienced driver (I don't know, just assuming, don't take any offence) and I don't recommend you driving a car set up like that...it's feels a bit quicker than a E46 BMW M3 (I driving one in the US) or a Porsche C4, a bit like a Audi RS4. Definately not as fast as a Porsche Turbo.

Even with those mods a SL55 will make you look like you were going backwards.

RS2 all these guys that are responding to you are doing the responsible thing, that is discouraging you from going too high on the horsepower till you (they) are sure you're not gonna wrap it around a tree the first time you spool it up coming out of a corner.

Having said that, to answer your origional question, YES you can build the car (with just bolt ons) that will beat a Modena or SL55 up to about 125mph or so (maybe higher). Both The Ferrari and the MB run in the 12's, an WELL TUNED EVO can run in the 11's (with JUST bolt ons)

Having said ALL that the best investment you can make dollar for dollar in sheer speed is in....Yourself!! Go to as many driving schools as you can, do all types (road race, rally and drag). You will be amazed how much quicker your CAR is because you are quicker. A STOCK EVO will beat a 360 Modena (and easily beat a sl55) around a race track IF the EVO driver is trained and the other driver is not...you'll smoke um' by seconds a lap and then you can look all smug when he comes around you pit to see how modified your car must be to beat his 100k+ supercar. Nothing feels better than knowing YOU are the difference (not mods anyone could buy)

The engine is stout...but it's small displacement ultimatly limits how much HP it can make (especially on pump gas). We can make about 400hp on 91oct (U.S. premium) and about 600hp on race gas. A supra can put out 600hp on pump and 1000+ on race gas. 2l vs. 3l it's that simple, both engines are well built and efficient, it's just that the supra engine is 50% bigger and as far as top speed goes, sheer HP and aerodynamics (and not power to weight) rule the day. That's why compact cars rule the rally world (and the autocross track and tight curcuit) and Supras, Ferraris, Porsche etc. rule the "big tracks" and top speed runs. There are of course individual exceptions to all this stuff, but generally true. Hope it answers some of your questions.

And to all you "other guys" why does everyone have to be categorized as a drag racer just because they ask about HP or acceleration? Truth be told, we ALL like HP, I drag race...and I road race, autocross, rallycross, hillclimb, rally, drift...I just love cars so I enjoy driving in ANY type of competition. Don't dismiss someone just because they want to know if the EVO can beat somthing in a straight line, that's what is so cool about the car it is a giant killer with just a few mods and that's how the typical person understands speed. Can it beat a Mustang? a Vette? a Ferrari? etc. OK I'm done
