Crazy coolant problem
Went to the track tonight and the car would not run right for it's life., The car kept misfiring and everything but there no smoke no nothing. I did find out where my coolant has been going however, all my coolant is being pushed out of the over flow of the coolant reservoir. I know this because the coolant bottle was full before the run. The officials said i was leaking coolant so i checked and it was empty. Looked under the car and the undertray and right wheel was covered in coolant. I checked the over flow tube and there was left over coolant in the tube.
Anybody know what could cause the coolant to be pressurized enough to shoot out the overflow of the coolant bottle?

I had the same symptoms when my head gasket started to go on my Talon. When I was running hard under boost I would get coolant pouring out of my overflow tank. I also had a misfire from coolant in the cylinders. Under normal and moderate driving, the car behaved with no problems. I ended up changing the head gasket and putting in head studs. I never had that problem again.

What happens is under boost the head gasket pushes out allowing 20 psi into the coolant passages. The coolant then gets pushed to the path of least resistance - past the radiator cap (6 or 7 psi?), then into the overflow bottle until it, well, overflows. Had the exact same thing happen in my Eclipse after a spark plug insulator came apart at the track.
