Question New Clutch = bad syncro shifts Info needed!

OK so here is my dillema.

I recently broke in my new ACT street disc/ prostreet Flywheel and ever since that time pretty much when i shift at high RPM my syncros are a ***** to get through in 2nd and 3rd and 4th for that matter.

I've heard that I should use some Penzoil Syncromesh for tranny fluid instead of the stock garbage that got placed in it which I have NOT done to this point. I know it will help out a bit, but not sure its the "Fix All" I need it to be.

Could it just be the fluid with the new clutch??
or
Could it be that my syncros bite nuts and need to be fixed?

Only thing that puzzles me is that I could power slam my gears with my stock clutch like it was going out of style!
The shifting is smooth as a babies butt on 3-4k rpm shifts if that helps diagnose or rule out any of your thoughts.

Please let me know what ya'll think! Thanks!

Adjust the clutch will temporary improve the shift but it'll eventually come back. I just replaced my ACT with Exedy twin and will find out if it fixed when I'm done break-in the clutch.

So you think its related to the clutch itself? TONS of ppl have the ACT street disc and im sure this cant be happening on all ACT evo cars can it be??

Did your syncros bite nuts BEFORE the clutch install? KEEP THE STOCK FLUID in there! I had redline and paid the price. Who did the install, did they gravity bleed the whole system? have them re-bleed it. change all fluid again TC/Tranny etc, try that out! did you put in a new Throw-out bearing?

acually i had no time to change it myself so i had the dealership replace it for me. I'm guess they took care of all the normal replacements! I can always go back and tell them my findings but rather not if i dont have to..

My shifts were ***** out before my new clutch.. Just fine and dandy!

maybe the clutch doesnt have a high enough "clamp-load" I hear that the ACT clutches grip like hell, but they are hard on the drive-train components. I say you didnt get a high enough clamp-load, call Jon at TRE in kalamazoo and ask him to diagnose the prob. He goes by the screen-name "gears" on this site, he Will have your answer, tell him I sent you.

The problem is only occur when you shift real fast at high RPMs (above 6500) which I did at the drag. I'm not the only one having this problem. I did went throught 2 ACT clutches and on my stock clutch, it lasted me more than 18k with many trips to the drag.

I'm not saying the ACT is causing the problem but just guessing based on some situations. If the Exedy do it for me then it'll be likely the clutch.

PS. The Exedy feels very good for me even I'm not pushing it yet. The bite, the pedal feels right to me.

Be a little more specific with what is going on ... eg:
1. Are you getting grinding between shift? possibly synchro issue
2. Or is it hard for you to put it into certain gears unless you slam it into that gear (no grinding)? possibly adjustment of rod or shift fork
3. Have to done anything to the stock clutch line (replace with stainless steel, remove pill, etc)? possibly fluid needs to be bled or rod adjusted
4. Does you clutch pedal engagement point feel consistent? possibly fluid needs to be bled

PS: you can use any tranny oil as long as it has the same weight and GL rating ... I believe BG synchroshift and Penzoil Synchromesh have the same weight as the stock one ...

If you're having a problem getting into gear at the higher rpms and it's not grinding or anything, you just need to adjust the pushrod down by the floor. I had the same problem when I put my excedy in. A lot of times when you put these aftermarket clutches in, and since the stock position is high to begin with, you need to adjust the pushrod. Problem will be solved.

Ok thats my deal then... its not grinding at all.. just like hard as a ***** to put in... a huge delay more or less... frankly it would bite if i were to actually race someone or 1/4 mile it!

I just got the clutch broke in a few hundred miles ago so i havent noticed til as of late.

Is there any special trick or certain check point i can look for when i adjust, or do i just have to fiddle and use trial by error method?

Thx

I wasn't implying he buy one. The stock one has a lot of adjustibility. I had the same problem with my clutch. Aftermarket clutches require the pushrod to be adjusted.

Dont get me wrong midwestmonster, I wasn't implying you said that. I DID get one as I was going thru the same issue, and to find out it is totally useless and worthless. I have 40K miles on my car, and have been thru alot of issues with the car, I am trying to help you guys out. i dont want you to make the same mistakes i did. It will help you throwing money in the toilet!
