fuel pump failure will cause engine damage?

Is it true that if your fuel pump fails your engine might have serious damage due to no fuel going into the engine?

True. A fuel pump failure can cause a lean running condition.

So what's the difference between a fuel pump failure and running out of gas

Is there any signs I can look out for just incase it does fail? I guess a a/f guage is the only option?

A fuel pressure gauge might help. You would probably see a drop in pressure if it was crapping out but, you'd have to watch it constantly. Unfortunately when you need the fuel (WOT) you usually have other things going on like hauling *** and watching the blur that was traffic so it's kinda hard to look at the gauge.

Yep. A fuel pump failure is really no different than running out of gas. That's why fuel setup for racing usually have some sort of swirl pot to avoid the pump from sucking air.

I'd consider an A/F guage like the Innovative Motorsports LC-1. The guage is fully programmable to allow the unit to alert you to a lean condition. At $399 it isn't cheap.

If that $399 keeps you from blowing a motor i'd say it's a great deal. i'm not sure if it could but it's probably not a bad investment...
