Coolant question
#3
I suggest nothing less than mitsubishi OE coolant only sold at the dealership. but if you must go to an autozone or pep boys or whatever, never ever use the 50/50 stuff "NEVER!" sure you can put it in and it will run fine if you live in perfect weather but when things get extreme you'll be sorry. Only use FULL antifreeze 100% and dilute with water. find out the percentage after you flush with a small 2 dollar reader you get at an auto shop.

oh yes the flushing part. there is a little plug underneath the radiator on the passenger side. you'll have to take the splitter off to get to it. let your car cool fully and then start the proccess.
1. unplug with a screwdriver or by hand
2. wait till drains
3. stick a hose in the radiator cap area turn the car on with the hose in place and let the water circulate.
4. stop untill car is warm or untill nothing but water comes out from the bottom of the radiator.
5. plug the radiator back up after fully flushed and drained.
6. with car off and radiator empty , fill with 100% antifreeze or mitsu coolant(best)
7. plug the radiator cap on and start car again untill reaches normal operating temp.
8. turn car off and in the resevoir to the left of the radiator top off. (needs to be at the max line, not above it, if below fill, if above drain).
hope this helped.

I lost a lot of coolant doing my radiator hoses and went down to my dealer. The parts guy seriously told me not to waste my money on the OEM coolant. I couldn't beleive he actually didn't want to rip me off. He told me to go buy some at advanceautoparts. I asked him if he was sure Prestone or whatever was okay and just told me that it was as long as it wasn't the junk stuff.

50/50 mix is proper.
70/30 is obsurd, especially in this weather. Anitfreeze is just that. It prevents freezing in cold weather and contains rust and corrision inhibitors. It does NOT cool well, water is much more efficient at heat transfer.
Unless you are in Alaska you don't need anything more then 50/50.

70/30? haha what a joke... just use 50/50. And the premixed 50/50 prestone is fine. The super duper dandy evo uses regular coolant just like every other car out there. When I flushed mine, I used Prestone long life and distilled water mixed roughly 50/50.

Jamie-
Good call, I didnt read it like that but you are likely correct. That sounds like a good method to me if you could get all of the coolant out in one shot which rarely if ever can happen. I usually drain the radiator, then run the engine to bring it up to temp so the coolant valve opens then i continually fill the radiator with a hose for about five minutes keeping an eye on the temperature gauage. After five minutes of this, i turn the engine off, fill the radiator with 50/50 then run the engine and refill after the bubbles have left and the new coolant has entered the engine.
