Scored cylinders and Pistons!!!!

Well, just got back from the dealership and saw my Evo sitting there with the hood unlatched...

Went to take a look and cylinders 2,3,4 were scored and the so were the pistons. Didn't look good.

What could've caused this??? The dealership said that it could have been from running too hot of fuels (huh?) I thought this car was built for Premium fuel!

Still don't know if it's going to be covered under warranty. It had an exhaust and intake when I took it in, but I don't know what the previous driver had done to it or how it was driven.

Looks like I'm screwed....

Are there sleeves in the cylinders or not? What are some decent pistons to get for a good price??

Our blocks do not normally get sleeved. Eagle Rods and Ross pistons are normally what people upgrade to but I would get slightly beefier and get it done once and never worry again but they are a cheap way to go and still get some good stuff.

About them saying too hot a fuel, I would assume they meant too low octane number. Chances are the previous owner had a boost controller on it and ran it very lean. Who knows though.

I've seen some evo's not broken it properly and have some of the same symptoms.
The boost controller wont make it run leaner unless you supplement it with over aggressive leaning out with an AFC.
You would crack the upper ring land before scuffing the walls.

too hot of a fuel means low octane. More BTU in lower octane fuels.
