Unhappy Any "underhood" Methanol explosions yet?

I hope this doesnt happen! For those who don't know what happened to me, let me restate it:
I got my Methanol injection kit installed by a DSM drag-racer, who has done my cams, clutch etc.. He knows his stuff. I topped off the car with 100%VP Methanol to check for leaks, there was none.
My 7 year old girl and myself drove to a fast food joint for some food, and the car started "acting funny", I was in traffic, and after it "stalled" I kept trying to "start" it, and it was like it was flooded. I told my little girl to get out (she was behind me) and we would call a tow truck. when we got out, we looked down, and we were BOTH standing in a HUGE puddle of the Methanol!!!!!!!!!!!!! to make a longer story longer, the connector was "finger tight". thank god there was no fire/spark etc...

My question is this, as the Mods increase, so do the vibrations and harmonic "noises" This would tend to loosen fittings, screws, bolts etc... what were to happen if this Alky kit decides to "shake" itself un-plugged again and there IS a spark? I think whoever is in the car, will exit doing an invisible Tourette syndrome dance! This scares me a bit, especially if I have the kids in the car. Lets NOT even mention a "minor" traffic accident, rear ender etc... How do we contain the fire-ball canister? putting water in there is safer I know, but what about future rusting/freezing etc? A rear mounted pump (in the trunk) would make the pump less efficent, as it has more "distance" to push the Methanol. correct?

is a 50/50 mixture as good as the 100% methanol or is water the best. It appears i am at the fork in the road called "More HP" and "saftey" what to do? any input?
is anyone else as concerned as me? or am I just too ****?
Again, Thanks in advance!

P.S. I did see a Halon fire extinguisher kit in the SCCA mag, can rig the whole car for 500 beans! flip the switch and the fire is out.

this sounds like a big issue. im getting the sds kit by rippmods which contains methanol injection, i hope this doesnt become a hazard i have to watch out for.

Yea..I am too doing meth injection in a few weeks...the AMS kit...installed from AMS... I am sooo worried about this as well..I just thought I was the only one scared.

Would a rear tank be more safe or effecient?

safety wire everything- you shouldn,t be concerned after that. kits are available to make fittings, nots, bolts, hoses, etc.....safe and not "loosen" even with vibration.

I state again... This stuff should be put in a NHRA safty fuel cell...and not in the front of the car. You will read some day about a fire.... A washer fluid jug is not safe. Im suprised that the track officials dont catch this at the drag strips...

I'm pretty sure wiper fluid won't catch fire. which is what "methanol/water" injection is.

These are parts that you have to purchace seperatley, or do they come in the kit? I have an AMS like kit, the alkycontrol I believe, I didn't install it though, so i don't know if they are the upgraded "saftey" connectors.

I guess if you are running strait Methanol, you should have a fire extinguisher under or near the front seat, as I am sure a 10MPH hit in the front is enough to crack the meth "bottle" and spew the invisible napalm over the hot engine!, I guess if its warm inside the car and the heater is NOT on, red flag #1, If the paint starts to change color, ie BLACK red flag#2, its time to exit! I am trying to devise a "shock-proof" bottle cover.
Running it from the trunk would make the pump less effective, I am not a hydrodynamics scholar, but a long tube full of fluid would need a larger pump to push all that fluid, as opposed to a short hose traveling the fluid a short distance!my 2c

smoked....why run meth? run denatured alky....its not as bad and im pretty sure it doesn't burn clear. you aren't gonna lose much power at all running alky instead of meth.....but, you could tune on both and only run meth at the track!

MMMMMM........ Back in 1987 I ran it on a Buick GN with the tank in the trunk and ran 10.30
all day long for 4 years. The pump worked just fine...almost 20 years ago.

people dont tell the Drag officials about whats inside the "can", they want lower ET's, they dont forsee an incident. I will devise a SAFE "can" and will pass it along! I think most of us use the car for transporting other people also, like FAMILY, would not want to get in a shopping center fender-bender and have the wife and kids exit on fire! anyone know of where to get a SAFER can? i can buy a couple nitrous bottles and drill in to them etc... of course EMPTY! anyone got an idea? Lets all put out heads together and figure this out! We can do it!

Great Idea Jeff, I can use my 93 Map with the denatured alky, and the other map for the Track! I was going to do 1 map 93 ONLY and the other 93 and 100% Methanol!

Are there any charts which compare H2O/Mixture/strait Methanol? as far as HP gains? I could have Andrew at Dyno4mance do it for us, but I think he is getting sick of looking at my car, I am plugging up the camode down in GA I am sure!

Just for your information - when I was doing some work on my car a few weeks ago I forgot to attach the - 4 line to the intercooler pipe and I was spraying raw methanol all over my exhuast manifold on the dyno.

The run was too lean and by the time I figured out what was going on there was a huge puddle of methanol on the floor and all over the engine

Of course nothing happend

Sure, methanol is flamable - but so is gasoline

Those who are concerened - that is why the kits that I sell are designed t work on windshield washer fluid or 50% water 50% alcohol mix
