Cooling fan switch

Has anybody installed a switch to activate the radiator cooling fan? My question involves how to wire it without damaging the fan motor or electrical system. If you have the fan manually turned on and the automatic circuit kicks on, will it fry the circuit, blow a fuse or ruin the fan motor? I already have the switch installed, but I am not sure how to wire it. Anybody done this before???? PICS would be soooo helpful.

BTW, I know that this mod is not necessary, so no flaming here. I also know that I need to keep the switch off when cruising because the fan can impede incoming air, thus making the radiator LESS effective. I want to do this mod simply becuase I like to "tinker" and I like to have lots of switches.... so if this isn't your thing, I don't care. On the other hand, if you have some helpful comments in order to help me accomplish what I am trying to do.... I would greatly appreciate it!!

Maybe i am way off here but you could install a second (Flexlite?) thin fan that operates completely independently (on it's own seperate circuit controlled via a switch). i am thinking about using one either for the radiator or in some way to vent thought the hood that would be controlled by the turbo timer to aid in cool down.

If not you could easily make a bracket and drill and tap some holes...relatively easy if you have the tools. I did this mod on my old eclipse, by simply joining the two relays together that activated the seperate fans and installed and on/off switch in the dash...work perfectly..(it was a three way switch go it would be either on, off, or auto

That's easy. Do it at the ECU so your not bypassing the fan controller or anything.
Let me look at the wiring diagram and I will tell you the best way to do it.

Okay I lied. That fan controller is rediculous.
Here is the diagram. Looks like the only way to do it is to interface directly to the fan.
I would say to tap into the AC switch but that may affect other things.

It can be done. On a 2g DSM, you just tap the fan control ground wire and hook up a switch to it. This forces the fans to turn on. I'm not real good at reading electrical schematics, so I'll let timzcat take care of finding out which wire to tap for you.

Well I don't have an answer. Looking at the diagram and other information in the manual there is not enough info to go on.
I don't think it would be a good Idea to apply power or ground to the module and have it run off the switch as it may damage the controller.

Let me look at the AC fan control circuit.

thanks for all the posts guys... I guess I am still a little confused though... should I go with a second fan and just control that with a switch, or tap the wire that Timzcat is talking about and have it control my stock fan??

Thanks for your help... I am really curious, and not that good at schematic reading, so if you get some good info, please explain in idiot terms thanks...

I realize this thread is pretty old but did you ever figure this out? I want to wire a switch and still have the function of the relay. Could help cool down things at the track.

Now that I'm thinking about it.. would be cool to turn both fans on with a switch hmm...
