One setup I know for a fact that will not surge with the EvoGreen/20GLT is stock ECU and stock EVO9 (JDM MR) BOV recirculating. One downside is this BOV may not hold as high of boost as the EvoGreen is capable of on race gas. . .

LWPZ -- What cams, BOV, and ECU are you running with the 20G9-5 that is surging?? I would recommend having the turbo upgraded to the EvoGreen specs -- you will gain more top end power without really losing any low end.

Hi EVOlutionary. Here's my set-up

Stock cams
Stock engine
BOV Greddy type-R (the stock one was not holding at above 24psi)
Stock ECU (Reflash)

What would be your recommendation to start?

Was your stock BOV the plastic version or metal version? If it was the plastic one, switch to the JDM MR metal one. If it was the metal one, you might try putting it back on and lowering the boost just a little bit. See if that helps. If not, then I suspect there isn't any way to get around the surging.

Now THIS is some good news. Jarrod said I had 8 people in front of me!

Thanks fo your suggestion. I'll speak to my tuner about this. I'm currently running an upgraded BOV, which is the Trust Greddy Type-R which has no problem holding high boost. The JDM metal one was not holding at all...

Glad to hear this. I've been waiting for mine since April.

Well really, I've been waiting for this turbo to come out since '04.

I was just reading this old thread and was pretty taken aback by these numbers on the old 20G-8-6 turbo. Is anyone turning this sort of trap speed at only 22-23 psi with a modern FP Green turbo?

No such thing, well at least in 20G land. Closest thing to a 20G-8-5 was a white rabbit. This test that David had was a 20G-8-6. The Buschur sequence was 20g-8-6, 20g-9-6, and then 20g-9-5.

Or are you saying that someone has matched these results with a white rabbit?

Ah yes, it was the 8-9 thing that threw me off. My underlying point was that whatever the crappy 6-blade compressor did (I had one), the 5-blade did better.

I have yet to see a 5-blade anything (20G-9-5, Green, etc.) pull a 124 mph trap speed at 22-23 psi.

Am I the only one that thinks that's stellar performance for such low boost???

To pull 124 mph in the 1/4 definitely requires well over 400 whp (Dynojet). I have not see results like that at 22-23 psi from anyone with a Green or any other bolt-on turbo.

This turbo is still available AFAIK from the company that originally produced them for Buschur Racing (turbochargers.com). Is anyone running it? What results have you seen at low boost?

We' re talking about a stock-sized turbo here, so holding 22-23 psi in the upper rpm ranges (where drag racing takes place) is not 'low boost'. On those grounds, I could just as rightfully say that my EVO 8 TME ran 118mph traps on 93 octane at 19-20 psi.

To further that perspective, consider the entire setup DB was using when he reported that. It wasn't as if he slepped on on a customer's car, tuned it, then went to the track. In other words, YMMV (and you know it will). Mine certainly did . . . enough for me to yank that turbo out with a vengeance.
