Castrol GTX for 1st service

...miles.
I don't know about the Evo, but WRX people (not subaru) recommend non-synthetic for the 1k change, and then full synth afterwards. Something to do with helping grind & carry away the small imperfections in the metal.
Saying that though, I used Mobil 1 for my 1k Evo change. Obey the cap!

Well when my buddy and I bought our 05 EVO's we immediately did our oil change right when we got home from the dealership.
we didnt want to break our engines in on Mobil 1 so we switched to castrol GTX 10W40 conventional oil.
at the 4000 mile mark we will switch back to synthetic.
I did the same thing on my 95 Integra GSR. For the 1st 5K miles I used conventional, then switched to mobil 1 5w30. The car ran real strong and was stronger than many other GSR's out on the road.

its better to break in a motor on conventional oil.
a guy I know who broke in his motor on the mobil 1 stuff never broke in properly and the motor was always burning oil...
Thats why we now break in a new motor on conventional oil.

There is nothing inherently wrong with running Mobil 1 from the on-set, especially in the land of warranty claims. However, everywhere else in the world, most Evos are broken in on mineral or semi syn, which is then replaced with fully synthetic oil.
At the end of the day, the best oil is fresh oil. Just be sure to change the oil every 4500 miles as recommended by Extreme UK.
