I was putting on new valve cover gaskets and cylinder head gaskets today. I found that I cracked the valve cover a long time ago. I slapped some red stuff silicone on the cracked line. Do I need a new valve cover or can I live with it? I really do like the JDM valve cover that says EVOLUTION tho.

You don't want you engine bay covered in oil do you?

Unless you can find a Magnesium welder.....your best getting a new one.

 

I used some gasket sealer, it worked fine and has not gotten worse.

 

that's what I did. I hope it wouldnt get worse. If I find a used JDM valve cover, I'll jump on it.

 

Where is the crack at? If it is in the center under the spark plug cover, then put jb weld on the inside and outside of the cover. It won't be seen by anyone as long as the spark plug cover is on there.

I think its safer to buy a new one... its like putting scotch tape on a ripped condom... it might work it might not....

on other stuff, yes i have, good stuff for repairing certain items temporarily, i personally would not use it on my valve cover though.. But its his car so he can do as he pleases..
