Mine is located on the steering column, and it this current gauge doesn't rattle so much at idle- as it does when on boost. The gauge I had before this would rattle at idle AND on boost.

I'm confused why all of the sudden this is happening. I've had my car and the first boost guage for over a year and now all of a sudden no matter what gauge I put in there- I get rattle from within the gauge.

Some people say it could be a boost leak somewhere, but I'm not sure that makes sense. My vac readings are normal, and I can't hear or see any leaks under the hood.

I had similar problems with my VDO gauge in my wrx but once I installed a restrictor all problems went away.

I had same problem. Then I secured the BOV line from the I/M which is where I teed in for the guage and the needle quit vibrating.

well no ****.. in my old v8 days, swinging needle ment there was a burnt valve... my a/m, worked fine in my 03, took it out of the 03 put it in my 05, there it was swinging needle.. i went through break in in the 05, after 1500 mi, and still had it. i narrowed it down to the gauge.. well at least now i know its not my gauge.. and this only does this on vaccum at idle.. thanks for the fix guys..

If your pertaining to what I said, then I secured the line that was vibrating on the engine. In this case, the area where my guage line taps (tee) into BOV hose vibrated at various rpms and psi, so I tied (aircraft maint string) the loose hose to a fixed area and in doing so, reduce much of the needle vibrating. The vibrating vac line psi was felt by the guage.

At first I though the guage itself started vibrating where it's mounted, but then I remembered that I recently changed/rerouted the BOV line, which ended up being the cause.

Not saying this is the reason someone else has the problem, but it was in my case

Used this on my vee dubb and it worked great see the small restrictor in the part of the tee that goes to the guage 1.8ts are notorius for vibrating needle on Mech. gauges.

can be found here for cheap: http://www.newsouthperformance.com/fitting.htm

I forgot to mention another thing... if you want to make sure if its the vacuum line thats making your boost needle vibrate all you have to do is have a friend pinch the boost line with a plier when the engine is idling. If it stops vibrating when being pinched then you need a restrictor pill in it.

hmmm, well my gauge doesn't rattle at idle, just under boost. Without a gauge there is no rattle, so I know it's the gauge that is rattling, but it's the vacuum that's causing the gauge to rattle lol.

I can't find the restrictor pills from the factory vac lines. Anyone know where to get something that will work in its place?
