Reality is that 5 speed tranny on the first EVO has cathastropic failure on Tranfer cases

search, or call tre, or shepard, they will tell you diff.. the 5 speed has the ability to put bigger, stronger gears in it, the 6 speed does not the same room in it.. i just proved it..

here is your proof, a 9 sec EVO 8 MR with stock tranny and 715whp on STOCK TRANNY
Isn't 715whp and a 9 sec EVO 8 MR stock tranny proof enough.

Threre is absolutely no reason to think that Mitsubishi motors would build a weaker 6 speed tranny. These tranny are 100% tested.
Remember, I haven't say that the 6 speed is stronger but definately I wouldn't say that the 5 speed is stronger either.
MR Scott has a modded MR putting 401whp and 404 lb/tq on a stock MR tranny, stock MR clutch and over 113 1/4 mile passes, not a single issue. Runs 12 flats an absolutely no problems at all.

I know the five speed is good for 1/4 mile and definetely not bad for road racing neither. Thats just my two cents on both trannys.

Just people who are thinking of going straight to an MR and expecting it to be a HUGE difference from a 5spd.

6 speed of the MR gives a slight edge in a road race over the 5 speed, it is already proven on the track. this is in most cases true. heck watch various Best Motoring, Top Gear, 5th Gear or even just Car and Driver episodes and hear this repeated like a broken record. nuff said.

Transmissions aside, would you guys recommend getting the MR or normal EVO(GSR?) to start? I'll probably just have to drive both. The damn dealership never replied to my email about when the IXs come in. Maybe I'll try to call them.
