What turbo is that ? GT3071 ??? Please help...

Hello guys,

sorry but I need your help.

I recently bought a turbo in Usa for my Evo6 TME,
and I personally trust the people ( no names for now ) that sold it to me...
but it seems to me to be externally quite different to the one I ordered.

I ordered a GT3071R.63

- T31 ar 0.63 exhaust housing - wheel 60mm w/84 trim
- compressor: 4" inlet - 71mm wheel w/56 trim - ar 0.50

and this is the one I received:

I immediately asked informations to the seller, cause was evidently a 0.70 a/r compressor housing, and that was his reply:

" This is a GT3071R, not the GT3076R. The true ones comes with the .70A/R compressor housing, not the .50A/R. The .70A/R T04S cover is usually more expensive and much nicer then the ugly .50A/R compressor cover. Its a 71mm 56 trim wheel up front... "

What do you think ?

Thank you !

It is odd that it comes w/ a .70 A/R compressor cover. According to Garrett, a true Garrett has a .50 or a .60. The only way to find out what CHRA is to pull off the covers and measure the wheels.

very odd to see a GT3071 with a To4S cover (meaning 4" inlet, 2.5" outlet) usually its a tO4E cover which has a 3" inlet and 2" outlet.

That's is not a 4inch inlet. I have a 3076 with a T04s cover and its much bigger than that. You do have a .63 backhousing though.

Ditto, and the onyl way to get the 4" inlet on a T04E is to have it port shrouded.

This could be a special order turbo from garret you bought.

Look at the center section of the turbo. There should be a little tap there with serial and part number. you can match that up with the part # from garrett to find out what turbo you have.

from my understanding the ported shroud acts as a bypass pathway in the event of a surge condition. from my talks with precision there are no detrimental effects.

Thanks jj !

So it would be quite impossible to have a 76mm comp wheel with that CHRA... correct ?
