sensor safe RTV

How bad is it to use non sensor safe RTV on a sensor?

Wondering if I should take out my Greddy oil temp sender and redo it with sensor safe RTV.

tia!!

Careful

Be very careful. Most over the counter RTV's give off acetic acid as they cure which wil destroy electronics and corrode bare metal. You need to find an electronics grade silicone material. These just give off alcohol as they cure.

thx sspeed.

I put RTV on my senders after I torqued them in, so the RTV is not inside the thread. I used teflon for that...

the RTV only touches the outside of the sensor nut, nothing else...

should I still take them out and use snsor safe RTV?

I would remove it... It is not the actual RTV that is corrosive. It is the byproduct of the cure (Acetic Acid) that is the problem. That is what you smell when you have uncured RTV.
