is not the retainer is the shifter base, i know that you need the new retainer, cause the stock can take it out withot cutting the shifter.
if you follow the install set up for B&M you will see on the instruction that you need to cut the shifter base. i want short shifter without cutting the shifter base..........can anybody give me a clue,

The B&M tells you what to order - just do it.

Ive got a kartboy SS and i didnt have to cut anything for install. Just replace the retainer, which was provided to me by Kartboy.

Yes the kartboy does not require you to cut anything for install as long as you buy a new pivot cup from Mistu part number MR246296

The only one that I have seen that requires cutting is the Perrin.

The B&M adjustable only requires cutting if you want a 45% reduction.

If you grind away at the metal sleeve on the stock shifter, right at the weld, then you dont need to replace anything or break/cut anything.

Boltz is correct. Also, long as you buy the nonadjustable short shifter from B&M you won't have to cut anything. You can also buy the adjustable one and if you want the great throw reduction you are going to have to cut. If not you don't have to cut anything, but, why would you buy and adjustable one just to have it at its lowest possible setting.
