just installed GSC 272 272 cams with fidanza cam gears and arps small problem
just installed the ver. 2 gsc 272 272 cams with the fidanza cam gears and the arp. I have the cam gears set at 0,0 and after checking over everything in the install i then started the car to make sure it was running like it should so after like 10 mins of warming up i couldnt tell any difference in the stock idle and the gsc supposedly lopey idle just wondering if anyone else experienced anything like this. Also when i aligned all the markings for the install the crank and the oil pump markings lined up perfectly but the valve cover markings were off alittle bit. Meaning the left cam gear went to the left and the right cam gear went to the right, these marking looked like they were off a tooth but they couldnt be everything else went very smoothly into place and the car runs great. Its just that, and the idle sounding exactly like stock maybe every once in a while i might here a small lope but nothing like i thought. If anyone else has or is experience this let me know. thanks

Not much of a problem is it? We've installed about 20 sets and have had varying results in they way the car sounds when it's done. Some sound lopey and some sound normal ...

They lean inward at Top Dead Center on Cylinder #1 They should only lean inward im saying without the timing belt on they would naturally lean inward. Take your timing cover off and make sure the motor is at TDC and take a pic and post it. Your cam gears cannot each be leaning outward, if that was the case your timing would be 1 tooth off in either direction. I think if your timing was really off you would have more problems ,like pistons hitting valves.

get one cam gear lined up with the timing mark on the valve cover, if the other cam gear isnt lined up try to turn it a lil to line it up, you can do this by getting 2 17mm wrenches and putting one on each cam gear to turn them, if you can line both gears up and then check to see if there is slack in the timing belt in between the 2 gears, if there is slack then maybe they didnt tension your belt correctly, or maybe your tensioner is bad

Also make sure that you're using the correct hole of the two on the cam gears. I think that your gears have a hole for the 2g Eclipse and the Evo8. This should have nothing to do with aligning the timing marks but the cams will venture in all directions unless you hold them and maybe use zipties when doing the timing so they don't jump.
