Only in some rally cars running 1.5 bar+, possibly with ALS. The post mortem conclusion i read was it was cuased by a lean spot in the map.

Does the IX turbo have a ti turbine wheel as well?

Yeah i've heard the same thing aswell, hopefully its not as bad as it sounds.

And yeh it does have a Ti wheel.
Ti=exhaust
Mg=intake

Can we purchase just the larger compressor housing and bolt it on to our Evo VIII 16G's? Just like we can do with the 10.5 hotside housing.

to clear things up... the jdm rs turbo is the only turbo with the mag wheel. i have heard they're having reliability problems with it in the uk.

the mag ti combo makes the fastet spooling turbo short of putting the bb conversion in there too.

the compressor cover is larger but more specifically the diffuser is larger which builds boost faster. if you do a search i explained how this worked in another thread a long time ago. if you want the brief version... the faster the gases expand the more they get backed up, the more they get backed up the faster boost pressure builds.

also the wheels is different. the blades extend further but more curved into the comrpessor inlet.

^^^
The GT model comes with the Ti/Mg turbo aswell, also its an option for the GSR's.

My folks evo9 GSR comes with the Ti/Mg turbo.

Also heres some pics to compare intake housings:

The one with the tape on the inlet is the older evo6 housing, the evo9 housing looks quite large compared to it.
