I just had the 264/264's installed and my 1st & second gear pulls are sick! 3rd and 4th are a little better than before.
Get the 264's if you want a rush from stop to a go! (With a good tune)

For me 264/264 are the best for stock turbo if you are looking "stop and go" and a lot of cornering.
The 1st to 3rd gear are amazing all the way to red line and in any rpm.
I live where the longest almost straight and flat lane in my country is aound 400 meters (less than 1/4 miles)... so I do not regret 264/264 cams.

I have swapped cams on my car 4 times
from stock
272/264
264/264
stock
272/264
Here are my impressions and tests, unfortunately at high altitude (thinner air)
the 264 do make noticable power, have a longer, but less dramatic of a pull. As everyone says , probably better for RR.
The 272 in the intake position gives you car RABBIES, and I like to control a seething, growling, and panting beast. The lobe says "I'm different, go ahead try me" to the car beside you. The top end is way different.
I plan on doing some cam gear setting tests. Those are a necessity when messing with cams. There is a really good article that I used in a post to help a guy find answers about cam gears. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll PM it to you.
If you like smooth get the creamy, if you like to crunch, get the chunky.
Honestly I think the more severe idle problems are caused by bad or untuned intakes or a poorly chosen Show Off Valve :-) . I'm at 5280 ft above sea level and rarely have idle issues. [Maybe on 100 deg + days driving 2 mi and hour in a parking lot. But I have yet to get a really good tune on this thing, but that's my fault, not the cams]
I still need to try the 272 in the Ex position (264/272 and then 272/272) but at some point you have to buy groceries and pay the rent.
Good luck!

Just curious why you say 264's are great for road racing??? IS there a lot of loss of bottom end with 272's. I also am interested in this as i like turning not going staight! Would 272/264 be better for road racing?

On a stock turbo, 264s will spool slightly earlier. On a bigger turbo, the difference would be more pronounced.
IMO the 272s are perfect for the stock turbo setup. I ran 272s (set to -4/-1) for over a year on my Evo and I was very happy with them. Car pulled very hard all the way to redline (no more 5500rpm blues). These days I run a bigger turbo with 280s, and, yes, IMO they are probably more cam than the average person is willing to put up with and overkill for the stock turbo.

HKS 272's... didn't cause me my stalling issues.. just a lopey idle which isn't a big deal... it was something else all along.........
I bought HKS cam gears for no reason because I thought it was the cams. Now I have a stock idle and a car that still stalls out
Now I have cool cam gears to look.. nice way to spend 300 dollars
With addition of 272's... my car rips, no other explanation until you try it yourself.
Have fun
