Go with the 280"s if your not concerned about the idle. Its not much worse then the 272"s but it is worse. You will deffially make more power then 272"s. I love them and am very happy i chose them over the 272"s. I also have the stock turbo.

Many people have said that the 280s on stock valvetrain can rev to 8k saftley and some kids even said 8.5k. If I got them i'd probally only goto 8k tho if that.

I am running the 280/280 set up on my car and I love it as well. There seems to be no noticeable low end loss and the power they make is increadible. The idle does stink but many hours of fiddling with the BISS and the idle tune has made it better. I still only get about 11 in/hg at idle. If you go too high with the idle RPM the car will idle hunt, too low and it stalls when you come to a light with the A.C. on. I have found that 1000 RPM idle works very will with a slight rich condition at idle. I run my 280's at 0/0, I found this to be the best settings for my set up.

You have an 04 spec turbo right or did you upgrade to the 10.5 exh housing?

I'm trying to piece together my X-Mas EVO parts shopping list together.... and I'm highly considering the 280's

if you go with the HKS 272 or the 280 cams, do you need to upgrade the valetrain, and when is a good time to put in stroger Head bolts??

264/272>280/280

Look at any dyno at the "midrange torque" numbers... YOu can sacrifice 7 horse power to pick up 17 ft/lbs of torque.

You do not need to upgrade the valvetrain unless you are planning on revving past 7800 rpms (some might say 8000). Opinions on headbolts also vary, but if you're planning on boosting 25psi or more, then they're probably a good idea.

what is that one dyno chart supposed to prove? Where is the comparison run to show us the whp/torque difference?
