Hmm thats weird, I have been having the same problem myself. Its freakin annoying. Only in first gear it shutters like crazy every so often. I still have the stock clutch but I am thinking about getting the ACT street clutch. I was thinking it was the transfer case but from what you guys are saying I guess I will have to get a new clutch and get the flywheel re-surfaced.

It is perfectly normal. Do not worry about it. There are many factors that makes this happen. One, very low TQ at 750-1250 RPMs make it seem more apparent than say with a V6 or V8. Two, the stock or ACT clutch pressure is very very heavy compared to a normal car, therefore it has a lot of pressure pushing the flywheel and clutch together. This combined with a flywheel that is no longer perfectly smooth and a clutch which is probably warped in some degree will make it 'chatter' while the clutch is trying to engage. Its nothing to worry about my man. You think that is bad... try it with a crappy flywheel and a 6-puck

My stock clutch is now doing this as well, but it's deffinetly my fault. Had a little problem at the track tonight!

Time for an upgraded unit!

for me, reverse is worse than 1st, and it really only happens on first start up. As the clutch heats up, the issue goes away.

I have the same problem.

Happens more often in the morning when the weather is a little cooler.

I attribute it to the fact that I'm not giving it enough gas/throttle when taking off from a standstill.

Just give it a little more gas and slip the clutch a little.

I'm glad I saw this post - I was beginning to think it was something with the car. Not the car - just the driver...

LOL..

Hey guys, sorry to bring this up from the dead but hey at least I searched ha! I'm having similar issues. I drove from San Antonio Texas to St. Louis Missouri and about 200 miles from my destination I started hearing the infamous death whine... Now here's a little back story. I'm in the USAF and had some personal issues to take care of back home and it was last minute so decided to drive instead of fly. I had put Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 75w-90 before I left because I couldn't for the life of me find Redline Heavy Shockproof nor did the dealerships have any Diaqueen left and couldn't get any for me in time. Now about 200 miles from reaching my destination I started hearing a whine so I pulled off to an exit and checked the car. I checked under the car and it was covered in fluid so I suppose it has a leak from the seals from when I did my axles. The drain plug and fill plugs are still on tight. So I did what I only could and babied the car all the way home to Missouri. When I finally took the exit to reach home I came to a redlight and was sitting there smelling the glorious burnt TC fluid off my exhaust thinking hopefully my TC is not too bad.. Well when the light turned green I put it in first and bam car stutters like I'm taking off in second gear. Could this be a TC issue that I had suspected or clutch? I have an Exedy Twin Disk that was rebuilt about 5k miles ago and had the same clutch in it before so I know the normal chatters and grinds from them but this was different. I can sometimes hear a clunking if I take off slow enough. Luckily when I reached home it was around 2am so no one was around to see my poor Evo stuttering at every light and stop. I finally pulled into my driveway and shut off the car thanking it for making it home and now its time for me to return the favor and take care of her as she did for me. So any help would be appreciated guys. I'm picking up Redline Heavy Shockproof and replacing all the gasket seals in my TC to get rid of the leak and hopefully the whine. But my question is will it get rid of the stuttering as well? Or is it a bad clutch? Thanks in advance EvoM you guys have helped me out before and I'm hoping you can help me out once again.

Cliffs:
Could not find proper TC fluid that most use
Put Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 75w90
Drove 800 miles
TC Death Whine
Babied it home 200 miles
Came to a stop and car stutters first gear
Question:
Is it all symptoms of TC or TC and Clutch?
