When you say " bone stock " currently. Was it modded before ?

If so, what kind of mods did he have on it ?

I was also thinking a small pin hole leak in the headgasket leaking in the combustion chamber.

If he was pushing coolant, he'd be seeing white smoke in his rear view while getting on it.

^^ if it was a small amount . I don't think he'd notice it because it would have burned away in the cumbustion.

Ok....the car has 39k on it. He is the original owner, never been modded before. Only has a turbo timer on it. I am postive that its not burning coolent. The level is perfect. So i still am stumped. Its really odd, it doesnt do it on cool days or at night. But only on the hotter days. And never overheats while driving.

Alright,

I had a similar problem with my Acura integra. I found out that my fans were working but it started working when temps hit 220+ degrees.

Replaced the temp sensor and my fans kicked on 190 degrees. Fixed.

But i really wanted to solve this issue before i started my tear down. So as i said the car is bone stock. It runs, and drives perfectally fine. On hotter days after ive driven the car. It begins to over heat. So for example. I drive, for lets say 20 min or so. Park the car for about 15 min, come back out, and start her up, and the temp gauge is reading past the half way point. Its not in the red or anything but it def is over heating. However once i start the car and get the coolent flowing, it drops down the normal operating temps. It has never over heated while on, even while sitting in traffic for hours, while its over 100. So this is something new to me that i havent seen yet in my days of builing motors. If anyone has a little insight it would be much apreciated.
its an 03.. there was a recall out on thier FCU fan controler unit... kept the evos/lancers/endevors from cooling properly... the fans just wouldn't come on... see ifs hes had that fixed yet.

you build motors and know nothing about this... wow.. its called heat soak. its very simple, motor isnt running, water not circulating, temp builds from the heat in the block... hence higher water temps... when you start the car, the thermostat, sense's the heat and opens instantly... there has yet to be a vehicle that doesnt raise the temp at least a little... even audi's raise, but only a little cause they run an external pump for the fluid to keep it circulating when the motor is off... also mitsu isnt like audi, the engine fan doesnt come on like an audi when the key is off.. otherwise an audi would do the same thing..

Harsh but true. No-one is perfect. Mistakes can happen. Nobody knows everything. I built my chevelle from frame up. I thought i knew that car inside out. A guy looking at it one day in the parking lot(thought he was trying to steal it) Spit out a crazy chain of numbers for my rear-end. I was confused. He wrote it down. Let me tell you, it doesnt stick to the ground for **** anymore AND I LOVE IT. Spinning in 5th gear is something to be proud of.

i have this very same problem in my galant vr4. it turned out to be the temp sensor in the thermostat housing. try changing that, or swap it with one from another car
