am i the only one who is thinking "why would someone spend 30K+ on an evo and then toss a rubbermaid bin and dryer hose in the engine bay"? i admire the creativity, but i expect to see this kind of stuff on some beat up, riced-out neon. or kinda like that guy who used to be on here who drove the "stinkmobile".
and i too hope the plastic doesn't melt. yes, there is plastic everywhere in the engine, but believe me, there are so many different kinds of plastic with different thermal properties you wouldn't believe it. and i would almost guarantee rubbermaid did no thermal analysis testing on that storage bin.

I would be willing to bet if you held a piece of that storage bin to your exhaust manifold for 3 secs after driving for an hour or so it would melt pretty quick

I'll keep the "it will melt" haters up to date. I think it will be fine. For the guy who said "hold it up to the exhaust manifold and it will melt...", I've got news for you, almost any plastic would melt if held to the manifold.
The airbox has no direct contact with any heated surface. It sits on the frame of the car and has physical contact with only body parts. Any heat it will see will be convection from hot air around it. I happen to be a mechanical engineer so you can all simmer down.
If it does melt I'll let you guys know, but I've got a little faith in it. Won't really know until summer though.

Your mazda-speed intake box is pretty cool... But where is the 4in duct that supplies a pressurized source of cold air straight from a bumper inlet???

I like it! I miss these DIY mods that I used to do for my ae86, Great job! I was thinking of doing the same with aluminum but that rubbermaid container looks like a much easier solution. A+
