Revolver Cam Test! HKS who?
#92
I also agree this thread was very informative. I would also like to see what Revolver runs their cams at. Straight up? Staggered? What are the cam gears set at? Also, are you running a stock head?

It's quite simple . . . on paper anyway:
- The Revolvers have the same effective duration as a set of HKS 280s, but with a little more lift. If the extra lift makes a difference on a stock EVO head or not has yet to be determined.
- If installed straight up, the Revolvers are comparable to HKS 280s installed at +.5/-.5. This means you WILL have a choppy idle, so expect it. You WILL also need an effective means of tuning and preferrably a dyno session to go along with that.
- IF you want a smoother idle from the Revolvers and want to lose as little midrange punch and spool time as possible, I'd opt for a -.5/+.5 setting. If you need a smoother idle still, try -1/+1.

Actually as installed straight up, I like the slightly tighter lobe centerlines of the Revolver cam set better than the HKS. To match the lobe centerlines I'm using, you'd dial the Revolvers to +1.5/-.5. I'd be cautious about doing that however, because the actual result may be a little extreme.

All I have to say is I love my Revolver cams, valve springs, and retainers. Plus the quality and customer service from Revolver is freakin awsome. Thanks again Revolver you guys freakin ROCK!!!

That's freakin great that you like them, I am freakin happy for you. I freakin like them too.
Seriously though, I am looking into getting a set of cam gears so I can play around with different settings.

I agree with you, I have never liked them but I would like to play around with the idle a little. Because of my head the reported 9 in Hg. by ogvw on his car is only 4-5 in Hg. on my car and that is over 1000 RPM.
I am looking at the ProStreet Gears because they look beefy and have 5 bolts. They were on sale for $120, don't know if it is still available.

9 in. Hg is what I have on my new revolver install at idle (working great) . IIRC, at around 1000 rpm. Stock head, no offset.
Purrs like a kitten. NOT, more like a ten ton cat.

if you mean me, yes you are right.
I did not intend to say my idle was "working great", sorry for that inside note. I have an aftermarket emc and enjoy changing load sites. I would guess a stock ecu would fix the load cells but would need a little outside help with the low rpm timing. By all means listen to the other posters about cleaning up the idle.
