Skunk 2 cam gears that were made for a DSM and I re-indexed for Evo. Five bolts design, lock washer, red lock tight. Have not slipped yet and have adjusted them many times. (knock on wood)

I was hoping to get more than 50 people to vote on this. Personally, if it is 90% all good, and 10% problems, I would say that 10 percent is a little too high of a risk factor. Lets get a few more vote before the poll closes and see where it finishes up at.

Vote!

If you're worried about slippage I'd just run a gear with more bolts. The HKS only has 3 so it's kind of iffy. The Helix, Vishnu, Fidanza all have five. Make sure you crank all five down you should be in good shape. I know a few guys with Helix gears with over 60k miles, no problem. To be extra safe, check the the gears everytime you change your oil.

Cheers,

Gary

I won't mention any names, but we all laugh about it now.
Har har...that was me. I was told by the vendor that the gears had locktite...that was NOT the case. I had just put the head back on the car after a port/polish and a 5 angle valve job. When the gears slipped, I thought I was going to have a heart attack! The thought that my valves were bent sent shockwaves through my gut. Yea, we laugh about that now, but needless to say I run the stock gears and nothing else now.

i voted no, but I did have a problem with the belt jumping teeth... Not good, that started a huge controversy and name calling when the car quit running..... Anyway, that might have been related to the installation of the cams and cam gears.....

You probably dont have enough tension on your timing belt. if whoever installs it doesn't know what they are doing the belt can be complicated.

Never had a problem, I have had many sets on many cars. I will say that you need to make sure to torque them and use locyite as soon as they come out of the box. I have run in to alot that arent torqued from the factory
