Used cam wear question

If you buy used cams, what are some drawbacks/concerns? Is there a wear issue? I would think that even a few thousand miles wouldn't be a big deal, but can anyone shed some light on this? I searched, but didn't see what I was looking for. Thanks.

i think if all the valvetrain components are the same then you should be fine and get the same "wear" as the other person. good luck.

I bought my 264's slightly used and I"m about to put some slightly used 272's in my car. I haven't had any problems with the 264's.

older cars, with direct lifter/cam contact, patterns develop. this can lead to destroying camshafts. luckily, most moder OHC cams, you dont have that kind of contact. you dont have direct cam contact, so you should be ok. i know we are in the srt community

Cams should be fine but whenever you buy used cams, you just increase the chance of something going wrong. Inspect them real thourough.

SRT GUY: WHY ARE SRT DRIVERS ALLWAYS TRYING TO RACE AND REV THEYRE ENG AT ME? WE BOTH KNOW 9 OUT OF 10 THEY WILL LOSE. I HAVE TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN TO SHUT THEM UP. DONT COME TO MY DOORSTEP TO KICK MY ***** - YOU WILL BE INJURED OR WORSE

^ Yeah, I plan on buying some used 280s. I just have to keep them stored in a bag or somthing untill I install them so they don't rust or get messed up.

Unless a cam seized there should be no problem with used cams. They just do not show any appretiable wear unless something in the engine was going wrong to cause a concern. I have seen cams out of 200,000+ mile car that had the same specs as when they were brand new.
