Few important Questions regarding GT35R
I have a few questions, and hope someone can answer them for me/us:
1. Do the tubular manifolds tend to crack more if used on a daily driver?
2. Do you have to "freshen" the cartridge yearly? (I heard about this by a SAAB turbo guru.)
3. Are there many with a GT35R setup running stock head and internals (besides the ARP rod bolts?)
4. I believe if you go this route (GT35R) you need a new down-pipe to fit.
5. Is using a 35-50 shot of nitrous more effective when needing quicker spool-up while racing, or is a Stroker-kit more economical. For those of us who use it for daily driving as well?
6. I am guessing the most "popular" kit bought is the AMS one. Anyone want to report how they like their RNR/Bushur/Other GT35R kits. I think the only difference is the manifold correct? a GT35 is the same, it just differs on what it "hangs" off of.

#6. All GT35rs are not created equally. I believe the new buschur 35r kit is using the forced performance turbine housing. Some people, especially the dsm guys love that thing. I think its good for another 20-30+ hp over a regular t3 housing.

1. Depends on whos manifold it is, the good ones such as AMS have no cracking issues.
2. I don't believe so but can't quote me on that.

I will say i wish i woulda went with an AMS kit.. My rnr kit didn't have the best fitment. My dp hits my front crossmember, my manifold is touching my vavlecover, it came with crappy hardware for oil return so i had to buy other parts.
They also use the old school 5bolt turbine housing. I would much rather the newer 4bolt t3 housing.
Ams is top notch, and Peak Boost's looks great as well..

I'm not sure about all the questions, but you best bet is to talk to AMS or Full-Race about a turbo kit. I'm sure you'll be real happy with whatever kit you choose. Good luck man!

1. I've had my tubular mani on most of the year with no problems. It did come with a "Lifetime Warranty" so I'm not concearned.

4. A 3" downpipe came with the kit. This is neccesary due to the location the manifold places the turbo (obvious).
5. I'm happy with the street spool, but plan on using a little spray for the strip to aid in launching.

Thanks Whoosh, thats the answers Im looking for. I was told by the SAAB guy that the cartridges on the ball-bearing turbos must be "freshened" yearly, at a cost of 750+ dollars. He steered me away from one of those turbos when i wanted one for my 88 SPG 900 Turbo (long time ago). I was just curious if this was still an issue? No one heard of this?

Hey Smoked...I see you're using an alky kit now. Just a thought to pass along, the GT35R is a high pressure turbo. It really does not start making good numbers until at least 25 psi (and just gets better from there). With the alky and the 35R you can run 25 psi all day long on the street and,I believe, be quite happy with the performance. With c16 and a little spray at the strip you can run 30 psi and more timing and feel the REAL power of a 35R.
