I think it was at the 2000 Shootout, somebody launched and shattered their CF driveshaft all down the track.

I'm sorry but, unless this is a drag track only car, I would never get one. CF consistantly shows poor performance when it's struck. Look at the composite wheels for motorcycles, any sort of impact and they're toast.

I can imagine the outcome from hitting an animal, tire re-tread, wandering track-out cone, etc.

WRC cars outlaw composite driveshafts for this very reason. If it's not good enough for a $250,000 car, it ain't good enough for me.

The breaking was definitely a fluke. But I have talked to two people now that have been charged long before the ds arrived.

I am staying on top of everything, the carbon drive shafts hold up very well, i have friends with composite shafts on street cars for years with absolutely no problems and they have nothing but good things to say about them.

i will make sure that the cards arent charged well before the shafts are ready.

If this shaft is made out of quality just like the one that AMS bought, It will be good for the life. carbon fiber is really strong material.

From Article 255 of the FIA Group A (WRC) rules:

5.2.5) Transmission shafts:
Titanium transversal shafts are forbidden.
From 01/01/2006, titanium longitudinal shafts are forbidden, save
in exceptional cases examined by the Rally Technical Working
Group.

Had a carbon driveshaft in my audi S2 - it was great sans a couple creaks here and there.
I'm interested in hearing more as the price is right and it's "Murican" made.

I had one of their shafts on my last car (92 300gt vr4) and it made such a huge difference in its performance. The stock shaft was 43 lbs and the UPS ship weight on the CF one was 18 lbs. It was the same feeling as when your fat *** buddy get out of your car, it just felt much quicker. I think the best part was the smoothness, These shafts will twist a little and just makes shifts feel much smoother. The only complaint I had with the one piece shaft, was a slight vibration at about 60 mph. Not nearly enough to take negate all its other pluses. If I had the money I would go for one agian on this car, but its not in the cards at this moment. As an FYI, normal resale on my shaft was $1300, but I got it for $999 shipped on a group buy when they first started making them for the VR4 like 8 months ago. I never dealt with ACPT directly so I can't speak of their service, but IMHO it was a very high quality product. I would recomend it to anyone who had the money to blow.

As far as CF driveshaft reliability is concerned, don't all 350Zs come stock with carbon fibre driveshafts?

I'm interested in this upcoming product, too. Groupbuy
