Question clutch noises

I read here that performance clutches make a lot of noise, I would say transmit more noise from the drivetrain. I can't understand why.

Why the stock clutch is almost noise free?

I was near to buy a carbon clutch, but read that it makes gear rattle.
I was near to buy the exedy twin, but read that it makes a lot of clutch chatter.

I decided then to buy a nice organic clutch with a lightweight flywheel, but read that lightened flywheels make that gear rattle sound when you are off the throttle in a high gear (decelerating). Is it true?

I test drove an Evo with a performance clutch and man, when I was off the throttle in a high gear this car made a horrible clutch noise, I think it is called gear rattle, like triturating a metallic part, but the throttle response was awesome!!! I think due to a lighweight flywheel.

My objective: To have that awesome throttle response without that noise. Is it possible?

Just go with a single disc clutch and you will be fine. Those noises come from having more than one clutch disc in there. Some multiplate clutch noises are more profound than others.

The twin disc rattle only occurs when the clutch is in from the floater plates rattling. Gear rattle (noise) can also occur on twin and other clutches from lack of sufficient dampening.

The gear noise happens from having inadequate dampening of the torsional vibrations. These vibrations (rotational pulses) get dampened out from the weight of the flywheel and the springs in the center of the disc. If you are really concerned with the noise use a heavier flywheel (stock or ACT Streetlite) and a spring centered organic disc (OE center, not cheap aftermarket). FYI: The later stock discs use a Exedy WAD (wide angle damper) design to help keep it more quiet, but this is not something I would recommend for performance applications.

Thats is not true at all. The RPS sounds when the clutch is disengaged and viceversa. When you engaged the clutch make a noise because the discs are free. If we talk about chattering and pedal pressure that is another movie, but that is not the topic

The RPS carbon uses solid center discs which means that there will be gear noise too (decel, idle rattle, etc) typical of non-dampened discs. That is one of the tradeoffs for the lighter discs.

What do you think about a MR clutch with ACT streetlite flywheel?

The MR clutch is going to be quieter than the others, but it is not what I would use for performance. There is no improvement in torque capacity or durability (which has been a real problem on the EVO). The lighter flywheel will give you slightly better revs and better durability because it is thicker but ultimately I would like to see a better friction material used at least.

You do not need to tell me that ACTman knows what he is talking about.

ACTman always comes here to help us, thank you again ACTman!

The last thing I would do is to turn the radio on to hide a bad noise from my car.

To tell you the truth, I never listen to the radio, the exhaust note is better.
