I believe 400WHP is possible with your mods, but I hope your tuner is up to the task, I know Top Speed has tuned many VIIIs with great success, but I am unsure of how many IXs they have tuned. Still Top Speed is one of the most reputable tuners in the EVO community and should do a great job.

IXs with just Intake, MBC, TBE with Test Pipe, and Flash have been hitting 340WHP-350WHP on pump gas so I'm interested in just how much of a gain you see with the Exhaust Cam and IC Piping.

Just one of many examples for any doubters.
2006 IX-
Buschur 3" TBE with Test Pipe
Forge UNOS MBC@20PSI
Custom DynoFlash Tune
93 Octane

I'm not sure if you will hit 400WHP on pump gas though, but race gas I could definitly see it. My guess is you see around 380WHP-390WHP which is not shabby at all. 24PSI seems to be when the efficiency of the stock turbo begins to fall off on pump gas. For example Precision Dyno made 315WHP (Mustang Dyno) on 23.5PSI and made 316WHP (Mustang Dyno) when boost was turned up to 24.9PSI. Should be quite interesting.

I'm really stoked about the kind of power the IX is capable of. Right now, with the current mods - I bet it puts down the same power as my VIII with full cams, race gas mix and a tune - which was 341whp (see sig) -

I really think 400hp is achievable.
Perhaps 400whp with bolt-ons is a bit optimistic, dont you think? IX's respond better than VIIIs to mods, no questions asked, but 100whp more than an average VIII with similar mods (mine among them) is somewhat hard to swallow. Yes, MD numbers are lower than Pruven/dynojets but the power gap between both is still huge.

just my .2 c

I think topspeed uses a dynojet so the numbers would be a bit different.

It won't hit 400 on pump gas, but if Smokin' Joe had a good tuner go after it on race fuel and maximum boost (27-29psi) I wouldn't be surprised at all if it makes 400whp on a dynojet.

Tray -

Thanks for the awesome service on Saturday. Top Speed is definitely an asset to all the EVO drivers.

I'll swing by on Tuesday and we can talk more about the IX and breaking 400whp. I think we can really nail it.

Ths is a bit off topic, but how good are the rods on the IX compared to the VII and VIII??? Can they hold higher power than the older versions???
Thanks.

i believe the bottom end of the IX is the same as that of an VIII only thing different is the turbo and the introduction of MIVEC into the head....someone correct me if im wrong, i havent looked at an engine diagram or part list

just one more thing, maybe it i'll be a stupid question, but a friend told me that the turbo wheels on the IX spins backwards, is that true??? If so, is there any advantage???
Thanks and dont flame me please.

The coolant passages are revised as well, which makes the IX more detonation resistant as compared to the VIII.

The IX pistons are a tad bit different. While it does indeed still have 3 rings, it also has an additional groove to help reduce friction.
