Oil too thin, ticking.

I recently changed my oil to mobil 1 full synthetic 10w-30 and it was ok.
I let the car sit for a week in really cold weather like 20's and then i go to drive today and it ticks pretty decently. It doesnt sound like its coming from the head but i can't tell..
I think i am gonna run it some more to see if it just needs some oil ran through it after sitting for a week...
If that doesnt work im going back to conventional oil not synthetic. I think it's too thin ..
I also have 58000 miles..

I think that if you haven't figure it out by now you shouldn't worry, the ticking noise on the 4G63 is perhaps legendary .

No matter how old, new, beat up,and type of shyntetic oil you use these engines make the noise randomly once in a while on cold or hot weather.

10w-30 M1, esp in fridgid Ut, is in no way a thin oil. Read your owner manual for the weight and temp. Thin is 5w

Did the ticking just start recently and you never heard it before for the past 60K miles?

i dont buy that. It was quiet now it's ticking. It just doesnt do that for no reason. There is a cause and there is a fix.

Cold, super viscous non-synthetic oil may quiet your lifter ticking but it's probably not the best for your turbo and engine, particularly on start-up. One of the advantages of synthetic is that it is thinner on start up in cold temps. I'd rather have happy bearings than quiet lifters.

your lifters probably drained out of oil or something.

ticking sound is never a good sound of anything. it could be many things, but it's usually have to do with valves or rod bearing.

throw some stp syn additives to thicken the oil.

that or take the ignition system out, crank the car for 3 sec intervals, it may help bleed the lifters.

i don't know.

To confirm your fuel system is'nt making the noise (normal), Take a tube or stethescope and direct the probe to each injector (base of elect connector), this is ticking you should hear. Now if you hear a different sound like a tap or knock, try to isolate it .
