Loud Ticking Noise after shutting the car off

Hi all,

Before I get flamed, yes I did a search on the ticking noise, but nobody seemed to clarify when they heard it- whether it was while driving or after shutting the car off.
So I decided to ask:

After I shut my car off, I hear a LOUD ticking noise for a bit. I think Ive been good about letting it cooldown- but this noise is starting to worry me. Only started happening for .. i dunno... the last 5- maybe 10k miles?

Any info on what this might be would be greatly appreciated. Thx

Loud Ticking Noise after shutting the car off

Is the sound coming from under the car ?

If it is , it sounds like your Cat cooling off .

I have the same issue. After I turn off my car, as soon as the engine is off, I get a ticking noise for 2-3 seconds. It almost sounds like a fan blade hitting something is it turns. I haven't had a chance to really look at where this noise is coming from. It happens 75% of the time when I turn the car off.

Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I had a similar problem not to long ago. I was getting a rattling for a few seconds after shutting the car down. Frustrated the hell out me...turns out my UR high-flow cat was bad. The honeycombs had become loose and were shaking around inside the cat.

Not saying this is your problem, but perhaps something to consider.

My car did the same thing. it's probably the radiator fan hitting the intercooler hose.

I think what you are hearing is the selinoid connected to the turbo.

I would agree when the car is running and you hit boost, but why would it click when the car is turned off?

That ticking noise you hear after you shut the car off is the exhaust system cooling off and contracting. Nothing to worry about...

Not sure I have had 2 evos and they both have done it. I am by no means a mechanic. I have tried to trace it down a few times my self and it sounds like it is comming from that selinoid. Maybe someone who does this for a living can chime in and let us know.

It is the ABS Solenoids resetting, it is a random, non-rhythmic tick and click for a few seconds after shutoff. My car started doing after 15k miles. It is normal and nothing to worry about.
