Most if not all lifter ticking experiences have to do with improper cam installation. Not bleeding the lifters properly or not prelubing the engine before initial startup is common. I have zero issues with ticking lifters with over 30 cam installs. My suggestion to all is to not try and save yourself a few hundred bux and get someone who is a pro to do the cams for you. Remember that there is a difference between a pro and an enthusiast. A how-to is only good for reference. Most that do their own cams turn out just fine, but some just tick away. When cold it is normal to have some noise though.

Superz is right. He installed my 260 Tomei procams with 11.5 lift (thanks Gil) and the only time they tick is for a short time after initial startup in real cold weather.
