Why did my CV joint brake?

Why did my CV joint brake?
I had some work done on my car a few weeks ago, power adders 20g-9, meth, etc. Also had exedy twin hd installed. About 500 miles later I engage in some spirited driving, everything seemed smooth, I didn't feel like I was over stressing the car, or that I was having trouble with the clutch.
After a bit of driving I noticed some clunking and whining. I immediately stoped driving and called it a day. I took the car to the dealer and they said the cv joint is broken, and the cv boot is missing, so they wouldn't warranty because the boot was obviously removed. They told me $500 for part and labor. A few days later they told me the transfer case is also bad, of course not covered.
I'm dealing with fixing that, but my question is why did this happen. Did the joint brake because the CV boot was missing, Is it something that I did, or bad roads, power and weak driveline. I don't want to brake another joint what should I do to prevent from happening again, not drive hard?
Thanks in advance.

yes. the cv broke because the boot was gone, and the boot holds the grease in place. The grease keeps the cv from "digesting" itself. Also any grease that is remaining in the joint will be contaminated with grit and dirt and basically become and abbrasive that destroys the joint.

The tcase makes some sense to me because the CV for the front is connected to it.
