Donwpipe install!

Hey all,

Are there any directions on line for a full downpipe install on the EVO.

Do you need to take the drive shaft down???

No drive shaft removal. The only thing you may need are some spacers for the crossbraces on the lower suspenstion arms. Some downpipes will touch them some won't.

I was looking at ordering a new crossbrace, but am thinking otherwise after seeing the car on a lift today. Some simple spacers (10mm washers likely) will provide more than adequate spacing for a 3" downpipe. Likely some new bolts would be required, roughly 10-15mm longer than stock, but thats a cheap mod.

The stock downpipe has to go, its got crimps all over it to clear everything. It and the stock muffler are pretty ugly.

The main problem with putting spacers on the lower cross members to clear is that they will become the lowest point on the car. If you are planning on lowering the car you could have a lot of clearance issues with the ground and thats never good...

Why the heck would I want to lower this car? Take one factory tuned suspension, drop it into the weeds, kiss your handling goodbye. I am racing this in stock class SCCA, lowering is out of the question. So a few spacers won't harm anything.

If you are racing is stock class for solo 2 (autox) then a downpipe is also out of the question.

I am talking about a couple of washers here. Some cars don't need any spacers at all.

Eric - You need to think about deleting the "Vishnu Tri-State Installer" from your signature block if you are going to ask questions like this in a public forum. Creates the impression that Vishnu Performance Systems is endorsing amateurs and/or shade tree mechanics, who don't know anything about the cars they are working on, as company approved installation centers.

Shiv - I sincerely hope that's not the case.

,

Hey, I have not done one yet on the evo and I was just asking. Over a year and 1/2 ago I never did a uppipe before. Now I have done over 152. Amateur I'm not. I'm booked every weekend for installs ranging from simple cat back to full fuel system upgrades, turbos and clutches. Sorry if you feel the quetion is amateur like.

I like to ask quetions on even the simplist things to clairfy in my mind the prosess of removing a fatory part and fitting in a aftermarket one. (like the fact some 3in don't clear the x brace).
This is a new car and I'm here to learn as much as I can. I will be picking mine up when my sell of my WRX comes throw.

Sorry if you feel that way but, how is even a Amateur (like my self) is going to learn with out asking.

Eric

Eric has done installs for countless customers and I've yet to hear of anyone being anything less than thrilled by his work. He does the job right the first time which says a lot, IMHO.
