Those are the same settings they came with. I just checked the TQ to make sure they were good. They did not need any tightening. I guess I should have loosened them up and re-torqued them... guess I figured they wouldnt be overtightened from the factory. Oh well

Since there are 48 teeth on a gear moving the hole 12 teeth is not an issue.

What is nice about this is you can use dsm cams in an evo or visa-versa. You just have to move the timing marks 12 teeth to the left or right depending on which switch you are making.
You really don't need to install them to compare, all you need to do is look a the tdc tooth in relation to the hole. If you can't tell by eye just use a ruler on each gear (dsm vs evo). Yes it is only slightly different but the person who designed these fidanza gears was aware of this and thus put 2 holes on the gears.

i used a ruler on the fidanza gear. the tdc tooth is exactly even with the middle of the dowel pin hole on BOTH holes.

dunno what else to tell ya except i see the slight difference, hope you are not doing this w/ the gear installed because it's very hard to tell the difference like that.

I don't know if I had Fidanza gears, or Ebay knock-offs (I bought the cam gears off a member here), but BOTH holes were off on my gears on both gears. We had to take a stock cam gear to get the proper setting, and then put a new mark on both gears to mark where zero was. IIRC, one gear was off 4 degrees and the other was off approximately 2.

Anyone else run into this?

I dont think you will have a problem with them if you buy them.

fidenza cam gears are fine. The person who installed the cam gears within teh 1st post installed thm wrong. you can see the open dowel pin hole having evo stamped in it!

atlvalets cam gears center section had 2 dowel pin holes machined into them, however they were both indexed for something other than a evo application.

Dont know who made the gears, but they look like fidenza's. Maybe the seller of the gears bought them cheap for being machined wrong & decided to sell them anyway?

Holy back from the dead. Ok for one, your wrong on the dowels. You can install them in the DSM dowel pin locations. Your talking about a VERY reputable shop not knowing how to install cam gears. I gotta call BS on that one. They even spoke to Fidanza, who told them the dowel pin position does not matter, as long as it lines up with the pins in the head. Read on the first page.

The problem with these gears is the timing marks are way off the tooth on the left (intake) gear. Personally, I wouldnt buy these. Go with someone that doesnt have these type of manufacturing flaws, especially since others have stated they had the same problem with the same gears. Should be a no brainer to me.

The gears were stamped wrong. We have not found another defective set like this since then.

Bringing this back from the dead I have a quick question. My tuner said that my cam gears were on the DSM settings and adjusted my degrees according to if they were sitting at the Evo setting by retarding the cams -6,-4 and he said its sitting at -2,-1 EVO SETTING. Now im just finding out that the cam gears doesnt have a specific setting my gears are sitting something like -6,-4 is this robbing me of power?
